‘There was a certain man among the Pharisees…’

Nicodemus wanted desperately to have all the answers, to understand. Jesus told him that was not possible.

‘The wind blows (breathes) where it wills; and though you hear its sound, yet you neither know where it comes from nor where it is going. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.’

John 3:8  Amplified Bible

Sometimes when we follow God, we have no idea what the outcome will be. Sometimes all we can see is darkness. Try as we might, we cannot see the light. Yet our spiritual thirst is what keeps us alive, keeps us moving, keeps us striving. This is not the journey of the uncommitted, nor the journey of the damned. It is the journey of the child of God, seeker of truth.

We speak of being reborn as flippantly as if we flick a switch and everything changes, but it is not something that happens all at once. Through pain, through darkness, sometimes we are rebirthed at each painful step. But each step is a step towards Home.

By night we hasten in darkness

To search for the living water

Only our thirst drives us onwards

Only our thirst drives us onwards.
