Wholly Holy

There is a balm in Gilead
To make the wounded whole;
There is a balm in Gilead
To heal the sin-sick soul.

Sometimes I feel discouraged
And think my work’s in vain,
But then the holy spirit
Revives my soul again.

There is a balm in Gilead
To make the wounded whole;
There is a balm in Gilead
To heal the sin-sick soul.

Don’t ever feel discouraged
For Jesus is your friend,
And if you lack for knowledge
He’ll ne’er refuse to lend

There is a balm in Gilead
To make the wounded whole;
There is a balm in Gilead
To heal the sin-sick soul.

A song from the days of slavery.

EMDR stirs up memories and I often find random memories appearing in my mind. It also stirs up dreams. By act of will I can attempt to ignore the memories during the day, but when they attack at night I often wake up anxious and uneasy. Praise God for His healing balm. Praise God for His holiness in all the ugliness. He gives me strength in my weakness. May the glory and honour always be His, forever and ever.

‘Satan’s angel did his best to get me down; what he in fact did was push me to my knees. No danger then of walking around high and mighty! At first I didn’t think of it as a gift, and begged God to remove it. Three times I did that, and then he told me,

My grace is enough; it’s all you need.
My strength comes into its own in your weakness.

Once I heard that, I was glad to let it happen. I quit focusing on the handicap and began appreciating the gift. It was a case of Christ’s strength moving in on my weakness. Now I take limitations in stride, and with good cheer, these limitations that cut me down to size—abuse, accidents, opposition, bad breaks. I just let Christ take over! And so the weaker I get, the stronger I become.’

2 Corinthians 12:7-10 (The Message)

  1. I am praying now that the Lord makes your sleep restful and peaceful. I love that version of the scripture from The Message.

    It’s getting hot and humid here. I could use another blustery day. Summer is not my friend, although I love it for my kids.

    • Thank you, Christine. I always appreciate what you have to say. English spring (or any other time of year, for that matter) weather is very changeable. You can wake to solid grey skies and a few hours later there are high winds followed by heavy rain, and then bright, clear skies by evening and a beautiful sunset. It can be cold enough for several layers of clothing, and then warm enough for just a single layer. We’ve just got back from a short camping trip so the weather has been on my mind!

  2. Good read. Have you watched Laurel Parnell’s YouTube video on EMDR and attachment? She’s phenomenal practitioner, and my trainer, and just wanted to share her videos/book as an EMDR resource.🌿
